AhlulBayt News Agency: Israeli special forces have killed a senior commander of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad resistance movement in a raid on the occupied West Bank, as violence escalates amid the ongoing war in Gaza.
Palestinian media reported that Israeli forces stormed the town of Tammun late Tuesday, using a civilian vehicle with Palestinian license plates and backed by military reinforcements. During the operation, they fatally shot 47-year-old Raiq Abdul Rahman Sadiq Basharat.
Local sources said Israeli troops raided several homes, ransacking them as military helicopters and reconnaissance drones hovered overhead. The Palestine Red Crescent Society (PRCS) reported that Israeli forces blocked their ambulance crews from reaching the injured Basharat and fired live rounds at them, injuring a paramedic.
Israeli forces later took Basharat’s body to an undisclosed location.
In a separate incident, two Palestinian brothers were killed when Israeli occupation forces opened fire on residents in Nablus. The Palestinian Ministry of Health identified the victims as Nidal and Khaled Mahdi Ahmed Amira, aged 40 and 35. The official Palestinian WAFA news agency reported that Israeli forces prevented ambulance crews from reaching them before seizing their bodies.
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has intensified its military operations across the West Bank, coinciding with its large-scale assault on Gaza. Hundreds of Palestinians have been killed, and thousands more wounded by Israeli troops and settlers.
Currently, more than 700,000 Israelis reside in over 230 settlements built since Israel’s occupation of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967. The international community widely considers these settlements illegal under international law and the Geneva Conventions.
